What do you believe about God? Think about it for a minute.

The thing I love about this particular song are the lyrics that prayerfully request God free us from our misconstrued ideas about who He is. Due to our brokenness, our pain, our simple humanness, we can't help but assign Him qualities and characteristics that simply aren't true.  God will not be completely understood by any of us until we see Him face to face. That's intimidating and downright scary. Because we cannot control God, we often design a safer god that is more relatable and comfortable, but in the end, that's really dangerous. God is who He is, not who we make Him out to be. We must always return to scripture to re-establish God's true identity and replace the "god our pain has conceived" with the truth about who He is. And y'all, the truth is good! We need Him to be exactly who He is and not who we make Him out to be. I love that the song says ours fears contain Him! I don't want to contain God! I want Him to do His mighty work in the world! If my fears or my wrong assumptions about who He is are holding me back from living a full life, I must pray that He demolishes them and reveals His true self to me. 

We must seek the truth about Him and who He is. Anything else leads to death.
