God's grace through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ, should compel us to repent. The more we know and fall in love with Jesus, the more our lives should reflect the changes taking place in our hearts. We are to be in the world, but not of it.  As Donald Miller says, this process will likely last our entire lives.
